Mentally Gifted Program

Students identified as mentally gifted may develop an individualized program. A Gifted Individualized Education Program (GIEP) is developed cooperatively between the school's staff, parents, and students to meet the needs of students identified as gifted.

Courses for the Mentally Gifted

Students interested in courses that provide academic challenge for the mentally gifted meet with their school counselor, and their GIEP case manager to discuss an appropriate plan for their four years at William Tennent High School. Rather than removing students from classes to provide enrichment in a specific area, at William Tennent High School we have the ability to enrich students in areas of their own personal strengths and interests through a variety of rigorous courses, as well as assignments within courses that are modified or extended to meet students’ needs of increased rigor and/or desire for enrichment in content areas specifically identified by students. Students are also advised to review William Tennent High School’s Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment options to further extend and enrich their high school studies, while acquiring college credits, where desirable.

Students identified as gifted should also strongly consider enrolling in the AP Capstone Diploma program.
